It's time to begin indulging in Pumpkin Spice and decorate for fall!
Did you know that pureed pumpkin offers loads of benefits to your dog's health? They can easily get in on the fall fun with some fun treats! But first, let me explain why pumpkin is so good for your four-legged friend.
First of all, this winter squash is a nutrient-rich food that is low in calories but absolutely packed with essential vitamins and minerals. In addition to its high levels of vitamin A, pumpkin contains a lot of potassium which helps regulate blood pressure, improves muscle health, and assists in their metabolism.
That is not an open invitation to dish a piece of pumpkin pie for you and your dog to share - canned 'pumpkin pie' filling often contains spices and added sugars your dog doesn't need. To be safe, grab a can of plain puree or do it yourself. Don't worry; your dog won't mind! And if you've got a picky eater on your hands, take a trip to Pinterest, and you'll be inundated with pumpkin-themed dog treats your pal will love.
Pumpkin does more than keep your dog's insides healthy - it also boosts their skin and coat health, improves eyesight, and has even been known to help rid parasites from your dog's digestive system.
Treats aren't the only way to incorporate this doggy super-food into their regular diet. It only takes about one teaspoon to one tablespoon per twenty pounds of body weight to be beneficial. That means you could easily mix it into their food, given as a pureed treat with a dash of cinnamon (a spice they can tolerate).
As always, be mindful of how much you're feeding your dog and pay close attention to their health if pumpkin is a new food. There are a lot of different ways to enjoy the fall season with your pup, and enjoying a pumpkin treat together is one of them.
